Táto žena je dôkazom toho, že práca kvetinára je azda tou najkrajšou na svete

Kvetinári majú o zábavu postarané, pracujú totižto obklopení farbami a vôňami. Jeden by im až závidel. Nie je to však prechádzka ružovou záhradou, toto remeslo je pomerne náročné a vyžaduje si mnoho vedomostí a schopností k tomu, aby bolo vykonávané na úrovni.
Erin Benzakein zo Spojených štátov amerických si toho vypestovala už dosť. Patrí k naozaj skúseným kvetinárkam – floristkám a prostredníctvom fotografii sa o tom rýchlo aj presvedčíte. K tejto práci sa dostala tak, že na pamiatku svojej starej mamy vysadila zopár rastlín, aby na ňu mala spomienky. Akonáhle vykvitli, nadobudla dojem, že starká tam je s ňou. Hneď teda vedela, že našla svoje poslanie. A my môžeme byť len vďační, pretože práca kvetinára a jej kvetiny sú samostatným umeleckým druhom.

This truck, lovingly nicknamed Little Fat Dragon by the kids when they were small, is the heart of the farm. It has been filled with so much over the years: blooms, compost, recycling, side of the road treasures, crates of dahlia tubers, bags of fertilizer, engines that need repair, kids on fourth of July, weeds, garbage, photo shoot supplies…. you name it. This little truck has seen it all. The funniest thing is that when Chris brought it home all those years ago, I started crying because it was so ugly. But he assured me that is was going to be a great farm truck, and he was so right. #farmerflorist #dsfloral

It's been a really long time since I've written anything for the blog. I haven't been intentionally quiet, but in the blur of finishing my book, teaching four workshops and running a farm, that space has sadly taken a backseat. Trialing some new varieties of scabiosa flowered Zinnias, looking for a better color range( I want more peach and coral) and more double blooms in the mix. I think I've found them! Can't wait to add them to next year's line up. #growfloret #floretseeds #dsfloral

We're on the homestretch shooting all of the dahlia varieties in our patch. Phew, what an undertaking! This gem called 'Labyrinth' is a new favorite. It has the coloring of a 'Distant Drums' Rose, tall strong stems, and perfectly sized blooms. #floretbulbs #growfloret

For many years I have felt deeply conflicted about Valentine's Day. On one hand, I want consumers to love, appreciate and BUY more flowers. On the other hand, I know that a vast majority of the flowers sold surrounding this holiday are shipped in from faraway lands. Yet, the renaissance taking place in the floral industry right now gives me so much hope that things are finally starting to change.
